Artistic Background

Did your artist work in other artistic Mediums (paint, clay etc?)
Lauren only works in photography.

Why is he or she a photographer?
She explains her passion for photography in these two quotes: "Photography is woven into each cell of my body, never to be removed.", and, "The greatest joy I have in life is taking pictures and I hope that through my images I can bring a little piece of my passion out into the world.". She began photography because she had to give up sports due to the amount of injuries she aquired. Also, as she was not very social, photography helped her express emotions. It is also a way for her to get people to better understand her and her personality.

What inspires his/her work?
She is inspired by fashion, as well as her personal experiences. She is inspired by the way the body moves, from her previous dance experience. She is also inspired to take photographs by the way that photography is, "the ability to see the world in a different way, to be able to create the impossible, to create a world you had always dreamed of, to be able to capture a moment someone will cherish forever, or to be able to remember the forgotten faces of the world.".

Has your artists encountered any hardships or successes in his or her life that are directly reflected in their work?
Lauren has encountered many many achievements, which is a  great accomplishment for a high school student. She has had multiple features, edititorials, and interviews in magazines. She has been featured on online blogs. She has been featured in galleries as well as a gallery in NYC. She has been the photographer for a photoshoot for the television show Project Runway. And finally, her images have been used for the covers of two different books. These successes are directly reflected in her work.

Why did you select this image?
I selected this image because I like that it has a special effect that was not photoshopped in. To me, the photo is simple, but full of little details, which makes it very interesting.

How would you describe your photographers style? (in your own words)
My photographer's style is very natural. Her photographs usually have earth tones or are black and white. They often has a shallow depth of field, so that the subject is the only thing in focus. Her style quite often requires playing with light, as in the picture above has specks and clouds.

After researching the photographer what have you found most interesting about his/her photographic style or image production?
I found it very interesting that Lauren is so accomplished though she is only the age of my peers. It is interesting that she has been taking professional photographs for a long time, but has only recently began shooting images in a studio, with models, stylists, and assisstants. I also found it interesting that she has the ability to take complex self-portraits without any help.

How are you planning to recreate your photographers image?
I am planning to recreate the image by taking the photo outside, with a dark background. I am planning to make the image black and white, and aiming to create the same special effect while shooting the photograph. I am planning to use a friend as the subject. I will also use flour and glitter to recreate the effect in the photograph, as Lauren did when she shot it.

What images do you anticipate taking to recreate this image? (i.e. describe the shots you intend to take to reach your final goal)
I anticipate my images coming out similar to the original photograph. I will most likely try to recreate it as closely as possible while photographing and edit the photo to look more similar.
